The good news is that you won't be punished if a crook uses your name and personal information to steal a tax refund from Uncle Sam. That's certainly the case with the unemployment compensation tax refunds. But even as workers await the document, the state has yet to decide whether thousands of jobless workers will have to repay up. Whenever the government starts sending checks, criminals will try to get their hands on some of that money. Michigan unemployment officials say 1.2 million residents about 25 percent of the state’s labor force should receive a 1099 tax form by the end of February, a month late, so they can file annual income taxes.
